Castledon Greyhound Rescue provides a sanctuary &
re-homing service for Greyhounds in need in the UK.
Greyhounds come to us as retired racers, as strays,
and from owners who give up their dogs due to
changing life circumstances such as: relocation,
financial hardship, divorce, illness, or death.
Castledon Greyhound Rescue provides the dogs with
veterinary care, spay/neuter, vaccinations, good
quality food, love, and placement into a home for
life under a contract that dictates their humane
care.
Greyhounds are now becoming very popular pets -
people are more aware of their plight & of course,
what fantastic pets they make…..
-
Contrary to popular belief, they don't require much
exercise - two 20 minute walks per day is
sufficient.
- Greyhounds have the most fantastic temperaments
- They adore human company
- Are extremely affectionate
- Are gentle, docile & loving
- Excellent on a lead
- Quiet dogs that rarely bark
Greyhounds are commonly referred to as 40 mph couch
potatoes!
Castledon Re-homing Procedure
Here at Castledon, we work slightly differenty from
other homing kennels.
As we are a smaller re-homing kennel, which is not
reliant upon the support of any outside body, we
don't have as many dogs as other kennels.
This means that we can really get to know our dogs
personalities, likes and dislikes.
Because of this, we like to think that we can offer
you a more personalised homing process.
Should you decide that a Castledon greyhound may be
the dog for you, we will arrange to meet you and do
a home-check BEFORE you meet the dogs.
The reason that we work this way, is that we think
that it can be very unsettling for the dogs if there
is a constant stream of strangers visiting the
kennels. We also think that it can be a quite
confusing experience for visitors who are confronted
by 20 pairs of 'pick me' eyes! Also, by viewing all
the dogs at the kennels, you may end up picking a
dog that is completely unsuitable for your
lifestyle/circumstances.
Once your homecheck has been carried out, Jodie &
Sandra will have a very good idea of which dogs will
be suited to you. Then, when you visit the kennels
you will only be introduced to those selected dogs
so you won’t have to meet any dogs that are not
suitable.
The homechecks will always be done by Jodie &
Sandra, as they are very experienced in matching
your lifestyle to the character and needs of the
dogs. They will also be able to answer any questions
that you may have about living with a greyhound.
If everything is ok with your homecheck, and we have
a dog or dogs that we think may be suitable for you,
you will be invited to the kennels to meet and spend
time with them.
We can arrange to take you to the local park so that
you can walk them away from the kennels, where
you're more likely to see their true character
unfold - quite often the over-enthusiastic, bouncy
dog that greets you at the kennels is gentle and
calm when away from the kennel environment.
If
you'd rather not come to the kennels (and we quite
understand that some people find it upsetting to do
so) we can arrange to bring a suitable dog to meet
you in your home, once we've done your home-check.
Our dogs are all very special to us and we want to
be sure that we place them in their 'forever home'
first time around and we find that working this way
is best for the dogs, best for you and best for us.
All of our dogs are fully vaccinated, wormed and
neutered when homed, which we think is the
responsible thing to do.
If you do become the proud owner of a Castledon
Greyhound, you can be assured that we are always on
hand to give you as much support and advice as you
need.
We love to receive regular updates as to their
progress and we're still in contact with our ex-Castledon
hounds and their owners to this day.
If, for any reason you are no longer able to care
for your adopted Castledon Greyhound, then the dog
MUST be returned to us.
We hope that you enjoy looking through our website,
and will consider adopting a Greyhound……
