Castledon Greyhound Rescue provides a sanctuary & re-homing service for Greyhounds in need in the UK. Greyhounds come to us as retired racers, as strays, and from owners who give up their dogs due to changing life circumstances such as: relocation, financial hardship, divorce, illness, or death.

Castledon Greyhound Rescue provides the dogs with veterinary care, spay/neuter, vaccinations, good quality food, love, and placement into a home for life under a contract that dictates their humane care.

Greyhounds are now becoming very popular pets - people are more aware of their plight & of course, what fantastic pets they make…..

- Contrary to popular belief, they don't require much exercise
- two 20 minute walks per day is sufficient.
- Greyhounds have the most fantastic temperaments
- They adore human company
- Are extremely affectionate
- Are gentle, docile & loving
- Excellent on a lead
- Quiet dogs that rarely bark

Greyhounds are commonly referred to as 40 mph couch potatoes!

Here at Castledon, we work slightly differently from other rehoming kennels..

We spend time getting to know our dogs personalities, likes and dislikes and want to place them in the right home, first time around, so we always arrange to come and meet you to do your home check before you come to the kennels to meet the dogs....
Once we have carried out your home-check and met you & your family, we will know which dogs that we currently have will be suitable for you & your circumstances. Then when you come to the kennels to meet the dogs, you will only meet the selected dogs that are going to be suitable for you, rather than you seeing/picking a dog that is totally unsuitable for your circumstances.

Homechecks will always be done by Jodie & Sandra as they are very experienced in matching your lifestyle to the character and needs of the dogs they have in their care. They will also be able to answer any questions that you may have about living with a greyhound.

If everything is ok with your home check, you will be invited to the kennels to meet and spend time with those dogs.
We can take you to the local park so that you can walk them away from the kennels, where you're more likely to see their true character unfold - quite often the over-enthusiastic, bouncy dog that greets you at the kennels is gentle and calm when away from the kennel environment.

If you'd rather not come to the kennels (and we quite understand that some people find it upsetting to do so) we can arrange to bring a suitable dog to meet you in your home, once we've done your home-check.

Our dogs are all very special to us and we want to be sure that we place them in their 'forever home' first time around and we find that working this way is best for the dogs and also the best way for you to find the right dog for you and your family.

All our dogs are vaccinated, flea treated, wormed and neutered prior to being placed into a home.

If you do become the proud owner of a Castledon Greyhound (or two!), you can be assured that we are always on hand to give you as much support and advice as you need.

We love to receive updates & pictures of our ex-residents enjoying their new life as much loved pets.

If, for any reason you are no longer able to care for your adopted Castledon Greyhound, then the dog
MUST be returned to us.

We hope that you enjoy looking through our website, and will consider adopting a Greyhound...

Welcome to the online home of Castledon Greyhound Rescue

Can You Help?

One of our dogs, Ruby, has recently been returned to us after 8 months living in a home. Ruby became ill and the owners felt unable to cope with it.

We never give up on any of our dogs here at Castledon - each and everyone one of them is loved by us and given the best care we possibly can.
Therefore, Ruby is currently undergoing tests at the Animal Health trust in Newmarket so that we can get her a diagnosis and the treatment that she needs and deserves.
Unfortunately, this comes at quite a cost and our resources have been seriously stretched and depleted.

We desperately need to raise some funds for our Rescue in order to continue our work…

We are looking for fundraising opportunities, ie:

-
Do you have any school/church fetes or dog shows etc in your area that would allow us to bring along our awareness stall and collection bucket?

- Do you work in a supermarket or shop that would allow us to do a collection outside their store?

- Would you like to become a sponsor for Timmy, Castledon’s sponsor dog?

If you are able to help us with any of the above or have any ideas of your own, please email us at
info@castledongreyhoundrescue.co.uk

Any donations would be very welcome and much appreciated.

We are currently experiencing a problem with our Paypal account so unable to take payments via Paypal at the moment. We hope this to be rectified very soon.

But if you would like to make a donation, please make any cheques payable to ‘
Castledon Kennels’ and send to us at;

Castledon Greyhound Rescue, 181 Castledon Road, Wickford, Essex, SS12 0EG.

Thank you for your help
